   Jingles

Jolly Jingles uses music, rhythm, and actions to help children learn and remember letter sounds (phonics). Instead of memorizing letters by name, children learn the sound each letter makes, which is an essential skill for reading.

Music is a powerful memory tool. When children sing songs and perform actions that match each sound, the learning becomes fun, engaging, and easier to remember. The repetition of songs helps strengthen phonemic awareness, which is the ability to hear and identify sounds within words.

Each letter sound is paired with a simple action, making the learning physical as well as auditory.

Examples of Activities

  • Letter sound songs – Children sing a short song for each letter sound while doing a matching action.

  • Action phonics – For the sound /s/, children move their hands like a snake while saying “ssss.”

  • Sound matching games – Students listen to a sound and identify objects that begin with that sound.

  • Sound recall practice – Teachers pause during songs and ask students to recall the sound or action.

This method helps children:

  • Recognize letter sounds faster

  • Develop phonemic awareness

  • Improve sound recall

  • Stay engaged through movement and music

Because the learning is playful, children often remember the sounds long after the lesson ends.
